Luanda, Angola – April 2017
Novawell has successfully completed the inspection of insulated pressure vessels and heat exchangers located on an oil production platform offshore Angola.
This inspection was part of the customer’s Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) inspection programme. Indeed, CUI is a major integrity concern for oil companies as insulation often deteriorates with time and creates water ingress paths and condensation water pockets promoting perfect conditions for corrosion.
CUI is traditionally controlled by removing the insulation and performing a visual and UT inspection. Although this remains the most efficient way to control CUI, it is particularly time consuming and costly to remove and reinstate insulation.
The technology deployed by Novawell enables for assesssing quickly the remaining wall thickness of any carbon steel structure through up to 250 mm insulation, thereby avoiding to remove and reinstate insulation and so making customers save significant time and costs.
